Motion controllers
Motion controllers combine the functions of a PLC controller with additional functions dedicated to motion systems. They have functional blocks dedicated to advanced servo drive control. These specialized functions include, among others, an electronic gear, electronic cam, linear, circular and spherical interpolation, electronic correction of mechanical clearances, flying saw and rotary knife systems, synchronization of multiple axes, G-Code support, etc. Unlike regular PLC controllers, motion controllers usually support fast communication protocols such as EtherCAT or have dedicated fast connectors to support encoders.
V5-MC104 motion controllers are universal motion controllers. They enable control of servo drives via fast pulse outputs (up to 3MHz frequency), CANopen master/slave communication, and EtherCAT (available soon). They have the capability to communicate with HMI panels via dedicated protocol or MODBUS protocol. The V5-MC104 controller has 22 digital inputs, 16 digital outputs, and 2 analog inputs (12 bit). The number of available I/Os can be increased with dedicated I/O extension modules (up to max. 200 points). The controller is equipped with 4 fast encoder inputs for multi-axis servo drive control in a closed loop feedback (e.g. for electronic correction of mechanical play). The V5-MC104 motion controller enables synchronization of up to 16 axes with cycle time 125us-1ms. It supports 6-axis linear, circular, 3D circular, spherical interpolation, electronic cam, electronic gearing, G-code handling, etc. It has many built-in functions such as flying saw, rotary knife, winding systems, etc. which can be easily applied by calling ready-made functions.
V5-MC104 motion controllers are designed for quick mounting on DIN rail.
Programming of the V5-MC104 motion controllers is done with the free VCAutoDesignSoft software.

Extension modules | The V5-MC104 motion controller offers a wide range of digital, analog, relay and temperature extension I/O modules. The number of I/O points can be extended up to 200 points, which covers most of the requirements for small and medium applications. |
The Kollmorgen PCMM motion controller is an advanced and high-performance controller that combines a high-performance PLC controller, motion controller and an EtherCAT master in a small package. It is ideal for both small stationary machines as well as complex modular production lines with more than 20 axes and distributed I/O modules.
The programming of the PCMM motion controller is done with the comprehensive and intuitive Kollmorgen Automation Suite (KAS IDE) which allows for fully integrated programming, testing, configuration and start-up. The KAS IDE software will help reduce programming time with its easy-to-use and programmable interface, built-in tools, configuration screens and one-click simulation. The built-in web server makes it easy to remotely diagnose and service the machine.
