The accuracy of ball screws compared to the accuracy of timing belts?

Ball screws and timing belts come in different accuracy classes. The most popular accuracy class for ball screws is T7 (C7). On a 300mm length, the pitch error is up to 0.052mm for T7 and 0.05 for C7. For timing belts, accuracy is measured on a 1000mm length. So the corresponding accuracy class T7 (C7) for ball screws is class 9 for timing belts (up to 0.015mm of pitch error).

Which type of tooth profile: straight or helical?

A helical tooth profile provides quieter operation with increased load capacity. The contact surface of the belt and pulley teeth is larger than with a straight tooth profile. With a straight tooth profile, the noise level is slightly higher, but there are no additional forces on the drive shaft with the helical pulley, which appears in the helical tooth version.

Why is it worth choosing lifts instead of ordinary worm gears?

Lift gears are also worm gears, but they contain resistance bearings on which the entire load is taken. In the case of ordinary worm gears,

it would be necessary to additionally mount the gear/screw because the bearings that occur in the ordinary gear do not transmit axial forces, but radial ones.

The installation of additional bearings is an additional space and cost for the entire device.

What to do when a large number of cycles and feed rate are needed?

In this case, the solution are Atlanty EH linear actuators or HS gearboxes.

In both cases, a ball screw is used, which allows for high feed rate with high positioning accuracy.

In the HS version, the gearboxes are produced on the basis of servo worm gearboxes, which allows for an increase in rotational and linear speed with a large number of cycles.

Maximal lifting speed?

The standard linear speed for screw jacks is 1500mm/min. This speed can be reduced by using different types of gearboxes or variable frequency drives.

It can also be temporarily increased to 3000mm/min by increasing the motor speed.

To accelerate the linear speed, multi-start screws with a larger thread pitch can also be used.

 Why screw jacks?

Screw jacks are mechanical devices used as lifting/moving transmissions, working on the principle of worm and screw gears. Thanks to its construction, it provides high load capacity and accuracy with small dimensions. Due to the use of worm gears, the screw rotational speeds should not be high. They do not require connection of various media such as hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders.

When is a trapezoidal screw self-locking?

The self-locking of trapezoidal screws (screw + nut) depends on the angle of the thread line. If the angle of the thread line is less than about 3 degrees, the trapezoidal screw is self-locking.

Should I use trapezoidal or ball screws?

Trapezoidal and ball screws are used to convert rotary motion into linear motion. In the case of trapezoidal screws, efficiency is low due to the friction of the screw thread and nut surfaces. This low efficiency can be used in applications where the system has a high inertia, as most trapezoidal drives are self-braking. Ball screws, due to the much smaller surface contact of the rolling elements between the nut and the screw, have much higher efficiency. In applications where very precise accuracy is required, the ball version is necessary due to its accuracy and durability.

Ball screws and rack?

Ball screws and rack are used to convert rotary motion into linear motion. Depending on the mounting and mechanical possibilities, we choose a set of rack and pinion + gear wheel or ball screw + ball nut. It should be remembered that ball screws, depending on the diameter, are suitable for shorter distances. The longer the working stroke, the longer the ball screw should be, but the longer the ball screw, the greater the probability of screw buckling. In the case of rack and pinion, length is not a problem, as you can join racks in very long distances without losing accuracy.

How to choose the right version of blocks?

Depending on the device, blocks and rails can more or less meet the requirements for smoothness or precision of steering. When you just want to move something in a straight line from one place to another, it is better to use a version with a slight clearance or without clearance and without tension. When you want to move an element where accuracy of positioning is required or vibrations occur, you should choose a version with higher accuracy and light tension. The higher the accuracy of the application or the greater the vibrations or impacts, the higher the tension should be, which eliminates the adverse effect of vibrations on the application.

What is pre-tensioning?

Pre-tension is a load applied to the internal rolling elements of a linear guide blocks in order to increase the stiffness of the carriages and reduce clearances. The higher the pre-tension, the better the stiffness of the block, but the resistance to movement increases.

Linear rail guides - rail vs roller?

When accuracy, rigidity and high load capacity in a small space is required, rail guides should be chosen. For less demanding applications, where guidance is the only requirement, roller guides and linear bearings are sufficient.

How to select linear guides and blocks?

Most often it is enough to know the mass to be moved in kg. We convert it to the force acting on the block [kg]*9,8=[N]. If we already know the force value, we just need to compare it to the carrying capacities of the carriages and guides and select a series and version with values not lower than those obtained from the calculations.

For more demanding applications, it is also necessary to know the values of other forces, e.g. lateral ones or moments acting on the carriage from different directions.

How to choose the right accessories for the ATLANTA gearbox?

We need to first select the base gearbox (we can select it if we know the required gear ratio and motor power/torque through the technical selection table at the end of the catalog). To the base gearbox we then need to choose the right input adapter and mounting clutch. The adapters are on the next page according to the dimensions of the model, and the clutches at the end of the catalog. When selecting the clutch, attention should be paid to the diameter of the engine shaft and the diameter of the multiple spline of the base gearbox. The assembly of all elements is extremely simple, and there are also videos illustrating it under the links.

What motors can ATLANTA's highly precise gearboxes work with?

The HP, HT, B, E, and BG series gearboxes are dedicated to servo motors, however this does not mean that other motors cannot be used. Any motor that has through-holes in the flange can be used with these gearboxes.  What is a gear backlash? What is its unit?

Angle backlash is the displacement of the output shaft of the gearbox relative to the position of the engine shaft. In other words, when we stop the engine and its shaft, the shaft of the gearbox can turn by a small value due to inertia. For highly precise gearboxes, these are small values, measured in angular minutes (arcmin). 1 arcmin is equal to 1/60 of an angular degree.

What does it mean that the CM/CMB/CMG series transmissions are maintenance free?

This means that the gearbox is filled with high-quality synthetic oil (VG320), dedicated to the entire life of the gearbox, and no additional work on the gearbox is required to be able to start it freely in the device. There is no need to fill it with oil oneself. There is also no need to adjust its level (the gearboxes are devoid of additional oil inlets, which translates into their tightness). There is also no need for an additional start-up and break-in of the gearbox (although a gentler work at the very beginning of use is always welcome).

What level of IP protection do our asynchronous frame motors have?

Our standard level of protection is IP55, which is a fairly high level of protection - against both solid bodies and liquids. An increased level of protection IP56/65, and even a "tropic" execution, i.e. IP67, is also possible, however the delivery time is extended to several weeks.

What types of low-voltage motors are available here?

At low voltages, DC motors are used. We have different models and executions. The most popular series is the EC series with permanent magnets, which comes with 24 and 12V. Another popular model is the ND series - twice as small (at the same power) as the EC series, thanks to rare earth magnets. Another option is the brushless Intecno motors, available with voltages from 24 to 48V. For special applications, it is also possible to make EC series motors with 110 and 220 VDC voltage.

What does it mean that the motor reducer has a modular construction?

In contrast to the monoblock construction, where the drive (i.e. motor and gearbox) is one, factory-integrated element, the modular motor reducer consists of several elements (such as motor, gearbox, adapter, reduction sleeve, and , additional mounting elements). This solution may be reminiscent of Lego blocks, but with small aluminum drives it provides enormous configuration possibilities. In a flash, you can configure and assemble a specific drive, because the component modules are in our warehouse, and experienced assembly workers complete their orders within one day.
